Brians Snake

Not so teeny, but i think he belongs here...babywipe packet for size.

I can't give a specific pattern, but crochet spiral with even increases for the head, then in back and forth rows for the coloured stripes, then spiral with decreasing for the tail end...i can tell you the body was 52 stitches with a 4mm hook, using DK wool and US single/UK double crochet for the stitch.

4 stitch split to two lots of 2 stitch, then dec to 1st to create the forked tongue

Felt ovals for the eyes...stitched on as it's for a toddler

All wrapped around a well stuffed leg of tights...well actually it's 3 layers of tights filled with bean bag beans, but you get the idea.

"cosmic bear"

Nelly Pailloux's book Crobots again. This time Cosmic Bear.

Original pattern had him in deep blue, but I only had light blue or really dark navy, so I decided on purple.

Crochet Yoshis

This time it's a bought pattern c/o Piccu's Etsy Shop .

I ADORE this pattern now...3 Yoshis now made from it and at least another 2 or 3 planned. Having an extended family of gamers he's perfect as a pressie.

Luigi...and Luigi

Again many thanks to Wolfdreamer for the amazing patterns.

One for mother-in-law to match the Mario she got earlier in the year, and the other for one of my sprogs...not sure which one will get him yet as I've had a request for another thing...watch this space.

George from Peppa Pig would be proud. A T-rex very similar to Georges

This one is for the younger little dude of the household.

Toad from Mario

Again pattern thanks go to Wolfdreamer ... I do love these patterns, and my own Teeny Dudes will love that I've made them.

This is Toad...he is in Mario Kart, and my oldest little dude (nearly 4 yrs) really likes driving with him. So here's a wee stocking filler for him

This is one of the few makes at the moment that I can actually put online...not going to spoil anyones surprises, so I will post more pics of stuff after Christmas

Baby Crobot 2

Yes he is exactly the same as the 1st crobot, just in opposite colourway. He had to be done as my older kiddo wanted one like his little brothers "can i have a red one mummy?"

Starkiller TFU2

Starkiller from the game The Force Unleashed 1&2. For those not in the know, he is Darth Vaders apprentice in the games set between the Star Wars films 3 and 4. This is him more from the 2nd game as he's duel wielding the lightsabres.

Another addition to the crobot collection...please meet Dogbot

Saturday, 16 October 2010

I have broken my thumbnail...right into the quick...and it's a tad nippy (cue lots of colourful expletives).

Anyway, i can still crochet and knit, but pushing the needle through while sewing up hurts like h*ll. So i have about 3 and a half little things made...a Starkiller from The Force Unleashed 2 and some more Crobots (CROchet roBOTS) are in the works...and a couple more ideas sprung to mind over the last few days.

So don't worry...i WILL be back (oh, another idea just popped into mind), and please feel free to comment and make suggestions you would like to see and i'll see what i can do.

White Stig

Well if i was gonna do one I had to do the other as well...so here's White Stig aka Ben Collins

He is The Original Stig

The Black Stig in typical hands on hips pose.

Ben Collins (aka White Stig) may have been in the press a lot recently but Perry McCarthy is the original Black Stig from 2002-2003.

Master Yoda I am

I think I'll make a mini walking stick for him, but other than that here is Master Yoda. The pic here dosn't show that his robes have a hood as well, but I'll edit in another pic when i get one.

Edit 17/10/10 now with walking stick, and a side on pic to show the hooded robes

It'sa mia .. Mario

This is actually the second time I've worked thru this pattern and I would still gladly do it again.

Not only is it an easy to follow pattern...even better, it's FREE and can be found HERE

Many, MANY thanks to the designer WolfDreamer...have a look if you are a Mario or Pokemon fan or know one, cos this woman is a genius...in my opinion she's a tad mad cos she could easily make a fortune selling her patterns on ebay/etsy/ravelry but she has the wonderful ethos that fan-art should be free, and I for one will not complain about that LOL. I know for sure I will definitely be working thru some more of her creations.

Hornette Inspired

 Sorry guys...I HAD to lol

Yup it's a mini Christian Horner. Inspiration has to go to adapting the pattern for the Southpark dudes with a good deal of inspiration from Unlap
Things to note...belt buckle, superman cape, watch and ring...think i got all the girls from The Christian Horner Fanclub (unofficial FB group) kinks covered. :-)
I'm actually really chuffed how the first attempt has turned out...who's next :-)

If you don't know who this little guy is....WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN??? How can you have missed this bit of TV geekage LOL

Okay, this is Kenny from Southpark, pattern can be found at  la fee crochette on etsy, unfortunately not a free pattern sorry but in my opinion worth it.

Same designer as the crobot below, realy fiddly arms due to the small number of stitches, but at barely 3" high he definitely has the "aaaawwww" factor

Baby Crobot

This pattern came free with the October 2010 issue of Let's Knit magazine, but also comes from the book Crobots by Nelly Pailloux. He's a little bit fiddly using only a 2.5mm hook but the finished result is so worth it. My 2yr old has slept with him on his pillow every night since I made him and we had a little panic at 8pm cos he disappeared (he fell down the back of the bed, but brave Mummy resued him).

I enjoyed him enough to buy the full book and I'm looking forward to making my robot loving 2 year old a few more similar things for his Christmas Stocking substituting embroidery for some of the springs and beads in the patterns. Made exactly to the patterns most of them are not suitable for kids, but perfectly suitable for the geeky friend you have.

What is "Amigurumi"?

Okay...basics first I'd better explain what the long word means. We all love Wikipedia and here is what it says...

Amigurumi (編みぐるみ?, lit. knitted stuffed toy ) is the Japanese art of knitting or crocheting small stuffed animals and anthropomorphic creatures. The word is derived from a combination of the Japanese words ami, meaning crocheted or knitted, and nuigurumi, meaning stuffed doll. Amigurumi are typically animals, but can include artistic renderings or inanimate objects endowed with anthropomorphic features.

There is no real reason to them other than being there to look cute...generally with a head much bigger than "normal" proportions with a tiny body and limbs. Inanimate objects often get made too, carrots,cakes,clouds,raindrops...the list is endless...and all with eyes and mouth to add to that massive cuteness factor. If an amigurumi makes you thing "aaawww" then it has generally produced the right response.
They are usually made in single crochet, using a hook a size or two smaller than would normally be used for the yarn thinkness.

If you are reading and would like to learn but don't know how there are loads of great tutorials on the internet, You Tube has some great video tutorials. As an example of instuctions that i think are quite clear to follow I can recommend a fellow Blogger user The Art of Crochet by Teresa

I have been able to knit and crochet since i was about 5 years old...Granny taught...which is now into 30 years worth now, altho I probably didn't do too much over the years it was about 4 years ago when i was pregnant with my first that i got back into it regularly, and in the past year my Husband and I stopped smoking which has made me even more prolific LOL. I've always liked making small and colourful things so gravitating towards making amigurumi is no surprise.

There is an almost unending amount of free patterns online, and many great books filled with far too many cute things to be allowed :-). If I've followed a pattern I'll try and link to find it into the posts.

Anyway...that's enough heavy blethering (scottishism for nonsense talk) for the moment. Next some pics of my recent makes

First Post

The title will mean more once i post some things.

A very recent obsession with teeny crochet things has developed...amigurumi to give them their "proper" name lol.

I will sort out photos etc soon.
